Keep outdoor furniture cushions looking great year after year with a few easy tips for care and cleaning. Start the cleaning process by prepping an area to clean and locating an area for cushions to safely dry.
Got dirt or crumbs? Start with dry cushions and a hand-held vacuum. Do a thorough pass with the vacuum, getting into the crevices and under any buttons on both sides of the cushion.
Next, mix up a soap and water solution to scrub cushions with a bristle brush. Water and few quirts of dish soap in a bucket will do the trick. Scrub both sides of the entire cushion.
Rinse cushions with a garden hose or pressure washer on a low setting. To prevent any damage to the lawn, especially if using bleach, use a tarp to place cushions on for scrubbing and rinsing.
Pat cushions dry with towels and lay them out to dry. Ensure each cushion is completely dry before using or storing since lingering moisture can lead to mold or mildew. They may take up to a day or two to fully dry.
Extend the life of your furniture cushions even more by spraying them with a UV-fabric protectant for outdoor textiles at the start of each season.
During the winter months, bring outdoor cushions inside and store in a cool, dry location. Or, invest in furniture covers to keep cushions and furniture in good shape and protected from the elements like sun, wind, rain, pollen, leaves, ice, snow, bird droppings or tree sap.
